“O quam tristis” translates to “Oh, how sad!” or “Oh, how sorrowful!”. A short phrase, yet full of deep emotion. It comes from the Stabat Mater, a medieval hymn that speaks of the Virgin Mary's grief as she stands by the cross, witnessing her son's suffering. In this new arrangement from the STABAT MATER by Marco Rosano, Francesco Rista and ELECTRIO reimagine that sorrow with a fresh voice. Through electric guitar, soaring soprano, and subtle electronics, they give shape to sadness—gentle, haunting, and strange. It's an emotional journey that blends the ancient with the modern, echoing pain in a way that's both intimate and unexpected.
In the Stabat Mater, the words "Fac me cruce" express a deep desire to be united with the suffering of the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross during the crucifixion of Jesus. It’s a prayer to share in her sorrow, to feel her pain, and to be spiritually present in that moment of intense suffering. This track begins with the haunting sound of nails being driven into the cross. It sets the scene in a powerful way, helping the listener imagine and feel the weight of that solemn moment. Recorded in 2024.
Composed by Bryce Dessner in 2015. Inspired by Steve Reich and Jerry Garcia.
"Dream" is a recording featuring electric guitar and a sustain pedal. The concept behind it was to adapt a composition originally composed for piano into the realm of electric guitar. To achieve the desired minimalist and dreamy sound, I used the Sustain Gamechanger Plus pedal.
Inspired by the expansive Icelandic fjords and their watery landscapes, the piece evokes a sense of melancholy while strolling on ancient lava and contemplating distant fishermen’s boats.
